If you're on Shopify, your products are already showing up when someone asks ChatGPT 'what's a good running shoe under $150.' The system works through Shopify Catalog, which feeds structured product data -- titles, descriptions, pricing, real-time inventory -- directly to AI platforms. When a shopper discovers your product in ChatGPT, they click through to complete the purchase on your storefront via an in-app browser (mobile) or new tab (desktop). You remain the merchant of record. You keep the customer relationship and data. Orders flow back to your Shopify Admin with ChatGPT referral attribution so you can track what's converting from AI channels. The business model is clean: Shopify charges no additional transaction fees beyond standard processing rates. OpenAI takes a 4% fee on sales completed through ChatGPT checkout.
